“Book Descriptions: William Falconer is a Regent Master of Aristotle’s Hall at the University of Oxford. In his middle years, he suffers from poor eyesight, but he has been able to obtain eye-lenses — a cause of great wonder among the townsfolk. His enquiring mind has been sharpened by his long friendship with Friar Roger Bacon and the Friar’s unusual scientific obsessions. Falconer’s keen logic draws him into several curious murder cases.

    Book 1: Falconer's Crusade
1264. England is in turmoil as the barons prepare to challenge King Henry III. When a servant girl is murdered. Falconer joins forces with Oxford town constable Peter Bullock to solve the case.

    Book 2: Falconer's Judgement
As Pope Alexander lies dying, the brother of one of his likely successors is killed by an arrow. It is believed a rioting student is responsible. Falconer and Bullock must uncover the truth before matters get out of hand.

Book 3: Falconer and the Face of God
Christmas, 1268. A troupe of entertainers has arrived in Oxford to perform a Mystery Play. When the final act ends in murder, it’s up to Falconer to investigate.

Book 4: A Psalm for Falconer
En route to visit an old friend at remote Furness Abbey, Falconer witnesses the recovery of a body from Lancaster Bay. When the victim is identified as a monk who disappeared years earlier, Falconer sets out to uncover a long-hidden treachery.

Book 5: Falconer and the Great Beast
1268. An embassy from the Tartars, a tribe from the East, has arrived in Oxford seeking an audience with the King of England. When the Tartar ambassador is found dead, everyone believes magic is responsible. Everyone, that is, except Falconer who sets out to unmask a brutal killer.

Book 6: Falconer and the Ritual of Death
1271. As old buildings are pulled down to make way for a new college, a headless skeleton is revealed. Falconer deduces that the victim was murdered twenty years earlier, and is drawn into a series of violent events in which past and present collide.

    Book 7: Falconer's Trial
1272. Falconer is arrested and charged with the murder of Lady Segrim, with whom he once had a close relationship. It’s up to Thomas Symon, one of Falconer’s former pupils, to clear Falconer’s name and help solve the crime.

Book 8: Falconer and the Death of Kings
1273. Falconer and Thomas Symon set out for Paris after receiving a cryptic message from Friar Roger Bacon. But King Edward of England has also arrived in France with a task for Falconer that will test his legendary powers of detection.

Book 9: Falconer and the Rain of Blood
1275. Oxford is in quarantine, running out of food and living in fear of disease. But it soon becomes clear that the plague is not the only killer stalking the streets. It’s up to Falconer to track down a ruthless murderer before he himself falls victim.”
