“Book Descriptions: In the book Transforming Hispanic-Serving Institutions for Equity and Justice (Johns Hopkins University Press, 2023)Gina Ann Garcia lays out a framework to guide HSIs in their organizational change work, arguing that colleges and universities must do more than enroll 25% Latine/x students in order to adequately serve them. Although we believe the framework is useful in practice, we think that practitioners need more than books to read, you (we) need a space to DO! This workbook is that space. This workbook was designed with educators and decision makers in mind, as a resource to catalyze journeys of transformation. We hope this workbook will spark new ideas and conversations about what it means to be an HSI and enact servingness on your campus, inspire innovation and collaboration, and support change makers in your efforts to transform your institutions. We invite you to use this workbook as you see fit for your own needs, and your campus’s needs. But we suggest you use the workbook in conjunction with Transforming Hispanic-Serving Institutions for Equity and Justice. It is not required, but knowing the theoretical foundation of the workbook will be helpful. The workbook is a space to freedom dream about new HSI futures. We hope you will carve out time to think, dream, and strategize en comunidad. We imagine this process to be collaborative, data-driven, and center Latine/x students and their communities. And we definitely encourage you to use colored pencils and markers to complete the workbook. Draw, dream, doodle, and imagine a different future for HSIs and Latine/x students. Read more” DRIVE
